Starting the journey

Backrooms Duck has been in development for a while, but we're getting to the point where we need to start thinking about actually releasing it.
We're starting this devlog mostly as a way to document that process. There are still parts of the game to finish, things we're figuring out, and plenty that will probably change before release. Instead of only showing the finished product, we want to keep a record of how we got there.
Figuring Out Marketing
One of the bigger things we're working through right now is how to get people to actually find the game. We don't have a big marketing budget, so we're trying to come up with things that make sense for the project instead of just throwing money at ads.
That's where the physical ducks come in.
We're putting numbered ducks out into the real world with QR codes attached to them. When someone finds one, they can scan it, register where they found it, give it a name, and leave a message.
It's partly marketing and partly just an experiment. The idea of finding a random duck somewhere and following it back to the game feels more fitting than a normal ad does.
We have no idea how well that's actually going to work, which is also part of what we want to document here.
What's Next
For now, the focus is finishing the game, getting the store page ready, and starting to put some ducks out there.
We'll use these posts to document that process, including the parts that work and the parts that don't.
